Aston Martin have signed former McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne to their ranks as a reserve driver for 2023.
The Aston Martin Formula 1 team have signed Formula E World Champion Stoffel Vandoorne as a test and reserve driver for 2023.
Former McLaren driver Vandoorne claimed the 2021/22 FE title with Mercedes, for whom he is currently a reserve driver in F1 alongside Nyck de Vries.
He will dovetail his title defence with the DS Penske squad alongside shadowing Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll at Aston.

As RacingNews365.com predicted, 30-year-old Vandoorne will take up duties for the 24-race 2023 season alongside reigning F2 champion Felipe Drugovich.
Vandoorne, the 2015 GP2 champion himself, raced 41 times for McLaren in F1 between 2016-2018, recording a points finish on his debut – where he stood in for the injured Alonso – in Bahrain 2016, while his best finish was a seventh place in Singapore and Malaysia 2017.
“It is incredibly exciting to be stepping into a reserve driver role in Formula 1 – and I’m delighted to be doing it with Aston Martin,” Vandoorne said in a statement.
“I’ve watched with great interest how the team has developed and expanded operationally, and I know how incredibly determined it is to make progress in every area.
“Joining Fernando, who I already know from my Formula 1 racing career, and Lance, to help them develop and improve next year’s car will be a terrific job.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge – and reward – of working together with the whole organisation at Silverstone.”
