Valtteri Bottas has been spending his summer break in the United States, picking up a victory on two wheels instead of four.
Formula 1 drivers have scattered all around the globe during their summer break from the 2022 season.
Lewis Hamilton has been in Africa on safari in Rwanda and Kenya, while others such as Esteban Ocon and Lando Norris spend time relaxing on boats with friends and family.
However, Valtteri Bottas has still had the itch to race throughout the break, only not on four wheels…
Bottas, a 10-time Grand Prix winner with Mercedes, is in the United States with girlfriend Tiffany Cromwell, an Olympic cyclist for Australia.
In Steamboat Springs, Colorado, he entered the SBTGRVL event – a cycling race held on gravel.
The Finn completed the 60-mile ‘red course’ race, coming home fourth out of a field of 726, while also topping his age group.
Bottas finished the race in two hours, 56 minutes and 22 seconds, in a three-way tie with Dante Humphrey and Vladislav Dragomirov.
The trio all crossed the line just over five minutes behind winner Ryan Steers.
In further good news, Cromwell won the Women’s 100-mile ‘blue’ course race in commanding fashion – coming home 21 minutes and 53 seconds ahead of Molly Cameron in second.
