No less than 13 F1 drivers have received fines during the first half of the 2022 season, with one in particular topping the list in terms of the highest amount being paid out.
The first half of the 2022 F1 season has been a busy one on track, and it has also proved to be rather expensive off-track for some drivers, with 13 on the grid racking up hefty fines during the campaign so far.
Several drivers have been handed monetary punishments for incidents both on and off the circuit, and Sebastian Vettel has ended up with the biggest FIA bill to date.
The Aston Martin driver has been fined €35,900 in the first 13 races, though the majority of these fines are suspended.
Vettel walked out during the drivers’ briefing in Austria, after which the FIA penalised him with a €25,000 cash penalty should he do anything similar during the rest of the season.
His scooter ride in Australia also proved pricey, coming with a €5,000 charge. Vettel additionally received fines for speeding in the pit lane and unsafe releases.
While Red Bull lead the Constructors’ Championship, the Milton Keynes-based squad will be relieved to know that they do not top the list of which teams have received the biggest fines.
Sergio Perez was handed two fines for speeding in the pit lane (total €600) and another €10,000 fine for holding up another driver.
Max Verstappen received only one €10,000 (suspended) penalty for ‘driver assistance’ under parc ferme in Austria. This puts Red Bull in third place, with a total of €20,600.
Aston Martin top the charts thanks to Vettel’s fines, while Ferrari are in second with a total of €35,000.
Charles Leclerc was fined the same as Verstappen for an offence during parc ferme, while Carlos Sainz was punished with a hefty €25,000 bill for getting in the way of another driver during Monaco’s third free practice session.
