F1 futures: Don't bet on Charles Leclerc to catch Max Verstappen in drivers standings – Yardbarker

Ferrari, and their lead driver Charles Leclerc, got off to a hot start to the 2022 Formula 1 season.
Red Bull has been having issues getting their cars across the finish line, but as we head into the summer, those issues have been resolved. As a result, defending world champion Max Verstappen has re-established his top spot in the Formula 1 world.
Let’s take a look at the latest odds, courtesy of WynnBET, to win the 2022 F1 Drivers Championship.
After leading the Drivers Standings through the first month or two of the Formula 1 season, not only has been surpassed by Max Verstappen, but he’s also been overtaken by the other Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez. He sits 49 points back from Verstappen, and 3 points back from Perez.
Ferrari’s only hope this season was that Red Bull and Mercedes’ early issues would persist for long enough that they could build up an insurmountable lead. The issues that Mercedes have sustained have persisted, but Red Bull righted the ship and are back to their dominant selves.
There’s no doubt that Leclerc has the talent to compete with Verstappen, but Ferrari is one step behind Red Bull in 2022. Not only will they need to sharpen their own ability, but they’ll have to hope that Red Bull will run into another technical issue with their cars.
I can’t see that happening, and in my opinion, Leclerc’s dreams of a 2022 Drivers Championship are dead.
