  3. F1 News: Michael Schumacher’s ’98 Ferrari F300 Is Going Up For Auction

Days after it was revealed that Michael Schumacher’s family accepted the State Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia award, it’s now been announced that his Ferrari F1 car from 1998 will be going up for auction.
Expected to sell for between $6-8 million, the Ferrari F300 sports the legendary 3.0-litre V10 that produces 800bhp. On top of this, being chassis number 187, this is the only F1 car to race in at least three races and still win 100% of the time. This would truly complete a very wealthy individual’s car collection.

Using the car four times during the 1998 season, Schumacher took the win each time. The season wasn’t so successful for him however, as he came second to Mika Hakkinen, His next (and third) championship win came in 2000.

The car has been in the hands of a private owner since 1999 with the owner buying it straight from Ferrari. It’s been hidden from the public since and has been untouched by the owner.

“Eminently rare and forever tied to one of racing’s all-time greatest legends, the extraordinary Michael Schumacher, 187 is without a doubt one of the most significant Ferrari F1 cars in existence, being the only undefeated chassis to run at least three races,” writes the auction house.

Jean Todt also weighed in on the legendary driver:
“I am biased. We have been working together, we became friends and we still are very close to each other, so Michael is on top of my heart.
“Michael loved his cars like they were his babies – they had a special meaning for him.”
RM Sotheby’s Monterey, USA is heading the auction, which will take place in August.
