It’s the Running of the Red Bulls entering Spain.
The early portion of the F1 season has seen haymakers thrown between defending world champion Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. The two drivers have accounted for all five first-place finishes this year.

Red Bull seems to have figured out the car’s reliability issues. Verstappen’s win in Miami on May 8 , was a pretty clean and effortless performance. Sergio Perez complained about some power loss on the straights, but that didn’t seem to impact his performance much as he finished fourth.
Verstappen’s second consecutive win broke the Leclerc-Verstappen alternating pattern, but there’s nothing to indicate that Leclerc can’t get back on the winning track in Spain. He took pole position and finished second in Miami, one spot ahead of teammate Carlos Sainz.
Things are looking very, very red heading into Spain.
Here’s what you need to know about the next F1 race:
After a two-week break, F1 returns Sunday, May 22, for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Red Bull and Ferrari have traded haymakers early in the season: Charles Leclerc leads the driver’s championship but Max Verstappen has been closing the gap
There are 22 scheduled events on the F1 docket for 2022, one race shy of tying the mark for longest F1 calendar.
The season started in Bahrain on March 20 and will end with its customary Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, although a bit earlier than usual, in November. If the schedule stands, this will be the earliest end of the Formula 1 season since it ended on Nov. 4 in 2013.
Returning to the 2022 F1 slate are the Canadian and Japanese Grand Prix, both of which were canceled in 2021 amid fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.
The calendar also includes the maiden voyage of the Miami Grand Prix, the first of two races in the United States in 2022. The customary United States GP will take place in October.
The Russian Grand Prix, originally scheduled for Sept. 25, was canceled due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
